Developed by TeamKill Media, Code Violet is a third-person action horror game, where you take on the role of Violet Sinclair, a girl plucked from the past who must unravel the mysteries of the Aion Bioengineering Complex as she avoids, hides or fights against the creatures who have overrun it. With the evacuation protocol in effect, Violet’s main goal is to escape the complex and save those she cares for, but with the creatures and a mysterious Director doing all in their power to stop you, will you get out alive?

Code Violet is a game that is made up of contradictions. There's no doubt that the people who made it love classic survival horror movies, and the mood, sound design, and main loop sometimes work together to make really scary moments. It can be very immersive to explore the building when you're low on bullets, hear dinosaurs nearby, and slowly learn about the story's darker themes. But bugs, bad controls, weak enemy AI, and a presentation that isn't always consistent pull you out of the experience over and over again.

Code Violet falls short of its inspirations. Although the concise adventure has some strong moments, with some great interior environments, it fails to create menacing enemies that evoke fear in the player. Bugs hinder the experience, often leading to clumsy moments that break the immersion. Unfortunately, fans of Dino Crisis will have to keep waiting for that spiritual successor they’ve been hoping for.

Teamkill Media’s 2nd game in 3 years made by 4 people, leaves much to be desired. It’s a near full priced game on a closed platform like the PlayStation 5. Code Violet is a game that boasts player urgency, discovery, and the appreciation of a strong and beautiful female lead. However, their game didn’t reflect their talk. My overall experience was not the greatest, most of the time I was bewildered by what I played. It’s not a game I can recommend at release, especially not for the asking price. It’s a campy, playable game. A game one can enjoy in a several sitting, when you have disposable time and money to spend. And perhaps a much lower price point. Code Violet was reviewed on a PlayStation 5 Pro.
