The balloon popping sub-game isn’t up to much, but the rest of Ultrawings is a dream come true for fans of Nintendo’s charming slice of amateur aviation. Score: 7/10 ? Apex Construct for PSVR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, £24.99 (Fast Travel Games) Armed with an upgradeable bow and arrow, and pitted against an army of robots, your job is to unravel whatever has turned our world into a twisted jumble of smashed buildings populated by android dogs that want to kill you.

Ultrawings packs a punch in the content department, offering a robust number of challenges spread across four different aircrafts, but unfortunately it encounters some turbulence along the way. Framerate issues crop up, ranging from inconsequential to requiring a restart, but fortunately these are not the norm. While most objectives are straightforward, I couldn’t help but become frustrated on certain mission types that didn’t give much direction outside of a minor clue. This problem was only highlighted further while playing in handheld. Still underneath the issues, there lies a fun flight simulator that takes you on a trip around a series of visually-impressive islands.

Ultrawings reaches for the sky and just about succeeds. It’s far from perfect but for now, it fills that gap of aviation gameplay you didn’t think you wanted.

Ultrawings isn’t too bad of a game for players used to plane simulators, but it just wasn’t for me. There are a lot of modes allowing for hours of gameplay, provided you get used to the controls quickly.
