MONSTER
Green Hell VR is an Open World Survival Experience set in the Amazon rainforest, based on a successful PC game Green Hell. You are left alone in the jungle with no food or equipment. To survive, you must learn specific survival techniques like building shelters and making tools. Also, crafting weapons to hunt and defend can be a matter of life and death. The game faithfully recreates the dangerous conditions of the Amazon Jungle. You will have to face your weaknesses, as well as hunger, thirst, fatigue, wild animal attacks, tropical diseases and deteriorating mental health.

Ultimately Green Hell VR is a bit like a mature Minecraft that is set in a more realistic and dangerous jungle setting. It somehow feels a lot more important to make sure you are getting your food and rest in Green Hell VR though and the consequences of not building shelter and some survival tools certainly seems more dire when you are experiencing it in VR.

Worth Playing

Green Hell VR on Quest 2 is an audio-visual showcase that sets a high bar for future Quest 2 titles and ports. It does so by making smart adjustments to the original game without compromising its core experience and gameplay. The streamlining of open spaces makes the experience easier, especially for those familiar with the title, but the gameplay is immersive yet unforgiving. It's not entirely smooth sailing, with some annoying bugs and frame rate stutters and some inherently frustrating gameplay moments that can take some wind out of its sails. As far as survival games on the Quest 2 go, Green Hell VR is the most immersive of all, and it's a great pick for survival fans who want to experience some rainforest survival training in virtual reality.

Green Hell VR makes a successful transformation into a VR title. Making full use of the extra level of interactivity and immersion that VR can provide whilst delivering a (almost) complete gameplay experience. There are some rough spots, but it’s well worth picking up, especially for long time fans.

Green Hell VR is the kind of game that will remind you why you bought a VR headset in the first place. It has so much to offer players who enjoy survival games, and the PCVR version is the closer of the existing two VR ports to the PC original for those who care about that sort of thing. If you’re looking to delve into an Amazonian rain forest and see if you can come out of it alive — or just want to stand in awe of the beauty virtual nature has to offer, transfixed by the gentle lighting and distinctive atmosphere — Green Hell VR will put your survival skills to the ultimate test.

Try Hard Guides

Green Hell VR is a fun game for players who are used to VR games. It can be a bit challenging as you’re learning the different plants, but it’s worth it. Solving the problems and getting closer to the end objective feels like a rewarding trek through the rainforest. If only Incuvo had improved on some of the systems from the 2018 predecessor, it would make this game shine. Try Hard Guides was provided with a Meta Quest 2 review copy of this game.
