MONSTER
What if you had a clone who repeats everything you do? And what if you had to destroy it? This is precisely what this game is about. In echo, the player has a clone, who mirrors your every move. Just like a mirror reflection. Your goal is to figure out how to destroy that clone. You solve puzzles by figuring out how to use the environment and items to correctly sync the player's and clone's movements. Only then can you destroy the clone. You have to be careful though. The wrong move can lead to you destroying yourself instead of the clone.

ECHO is the worst game imaginable if you have a problem with delayed gratification. If, however, you’re in the market for a game where a little bit of patience goes a long way, it’s well worth your time.

Although Echo fizzles out instead of building to a crescendo, I still loved it. I mean, we’re talking instant entry into the Top 5 games I’ve played this year. It’s just a shame that Ultra Ultra didn’t keep layering in mechanics and that the story lost focus. However, despite these issues, Echo remains an incredibly strong debut from a developer I’ll be keeping my eye on in the future. Disclosures: This game is developed and published by Ultra Ultra.

Echo truly surprised me in ways I didn’t expect. It’s very serious in its setting, absolutely nailing this mishmash of sci-fi horror and tension perfectly combined with stealth and A.I. elements that push the narrative further and extend to its moment to moment gameplay. I haven’t heard many people talking about Echo, and I surely hope that changes. If a sequel ever comes or a new setting with similar style ideas on gameplay emerge, count me in. Echo nails exactly what it’s going for. P.S. it has one of the most creative and cool looking start menus.
