MONSTER
Hellbound is a limit-removing 32-level megawad created by Zoltán Sófalvi (Z86). Most maps are connected, in that the sense that the end of one map resembles the start area of the next. A second WAD, with the file name "HBFM29.wad," is included, which contains the full version of MAP29. This is because MAP29's extreme level of detail causes heavy drops in frame rate on lower-end computers, particularly in ZDoom-based ports, and the cut-down version in the main WAD attempts to rectify this, though in reality, the difference is negligible. Hellbound was uploaded to the idgames archive on 29 June, 2013. It was praised for its aesthetic quality, but criticised for its gameplay, which many found to be mostly uninteresting. Due to this, it missed out on a win at the 20th Annual Cacowards, being named as a runner-up instead.

Overall Hellbound meets expectations as a retro style 90’s Shooter. Whilst it does not innovate as much as some people would like, this game has enough about it to be worth the pickup. 4.2 Retro, Shooter Well… Hell here we go again.

While many will at first dismiss the game as a DOOM clone, Hellbound lovingly takes its ques from a myriad of games and creates a nostalgic, challenging, and fun experience.

Hey Poor Player

The fact that 90’s shooters are as popular as ever is a testament to their sound design philosophy. Of course, the catalogue is as extensive as ever, what with a steady stream of retro-styled shooters gracing our screens on a nigh-regular basis. Hellbound is another such title, now a full-fledged game, which has emerged from languishing in Steam’s Early Access. And does it hold up against its peers? To put a fine point to it: oh, Hell yeah. A literal shot in the dark (and everywhere else) So, you take on the role of Hellgore; a damned soul with an attitude every bit as evil as the inferno around you.
