There’s a sweetness to the storytelling, even as it brushes against darker edges. Conversations with your aunt before she vanishes are tender and grounding, and her absence leaves a noticeable quiet in the game’s tone early on. The world itself does much of the storytelling — a broken teapot here, a patched-up bed there — all little reminders of a home once full of life. This isn’t a dramatic narrative filled with twists, but rather a reflective one.

With robust content like more zones than I expected, tool upgrades, and the gradually unfolding stories from your neighbors, this game promises to keep many gamers happy this winter. I know I’m going to be playing and replaying this for a while.

It’s ultimately a very sweet game, a short little novel of an experience that is rewarding in its execution and appealing in its presentation. Winter Burrow might not be the most challenging experience, but it’s not really supposed to be. Finding the right balance between exploration, atmosphere, and challenge, Winter Burrow is a bittersweet tale that only grows sweeter as time goes on.

Apart from a few minor glitches, mostly concerning how Storage works, it's a well-functioning game in its genre. It may be too simple for some, but if you are looking for a cosy and relaxing game to sit and warm yourself with on dark evenings, perhaps together with your partner, then Winter Burrow is a pretty good bet. You can already try a demo of Winter Burrow for PC on Steam, and it will also be available on Game Pass on day one. HQ Gamereactor UK 8 / 10 + Easy to get into.
