MONSTER
"The epic story of Utawarerumono comes to an end in Mask of Truth, as the fate of the world will be determined by warring nations. The game features exciting SRPG battles, a colorful cast of new/familiar faces that will determine the fate of their world, a rousing original soundtrack, and the dramatic conclusion to the journey of Haku. After the events of Mask of Deception, Haku is destined to rally the nation of Ennakamuy to fight against the evil forces that now control the Yamato throne. With everything on the line, Haku and his friends must do everything in their power to ensure that the future of Yamato triumphs over the true evil that lurks in the depth of the darkness."

While this series may flow under the radar in the west, if you recognize yourself as a visual novel fan, you sincerely owe it to yourself to indulge in what I consider to be one of the most endearing experiences I’ve had in years. I know I'll miss my fellow party members considerably. As someone who values story above all else in the games I play, that’s saying a lot, but it isn’t the only aspect worth praising here. From the artwork and music to the characters and combat system, I can’t recommend this series enough.

A rich, thrilling adventure with memorable characters and a complex, mesmerising narrative. Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth must only be played after Mask of Deception, and the pair of visual novels will take you on a rich, thrilling adventure with memorable characters and a complex, mesmerising narrative.

It’s hard to say whether Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth is better than Mask of Deception since they’re essentially one story split into two halves, but I found the entire tale thought-provoking and its characters lovable and (mostly) funny. It’s a visual novel worth playing, and now that I’ve reached its end, I’m a little sad saying goodbye. Disclosures: This game is developed by Aquaplus and developed by Atlus.

This has been a very enjoyable game to play and strongly recommend a play. Even if you’ve never played a JRPG before like me.

Mask of Truth takes what Mask of Deception‘s second half had finally started to do and gives the characters and story the telling they deserve. It must be said that without the slow build-up to put everything in context and build the emotional connection between the characters, the latter parts might not have paid off as well as they did.
