The review gives Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX a 3/5 score, calling it a mid-point that may satisfy some fans but falls short as a meaningful remake. It acknowledges the visual improvements but criticizes gameplay and design choices.

Disgaea 6 is focused more on improving what's already here, and it more than succeeds in that task. Yes, NIS will have to add some more substantial changes to the series beyond just some tweaks here and there one day. With Defiance of Destiny, I'm happy to wait a while longer for that day.

Disgaea 6 was easily my favorite Disgaea game in a lot of aspects: amazing quality of life features, a great 3D style change, good music, engaging story, lots of content, and funny characters. But in some aspects, it feels like a regression from the rest of the series, with the lack of boss battle variety, lackluster maps, and slim character classes being the biggest gripes I had. If they manage to keep the good from this game and combine it with the best of the series, then I truly think that Disgaea is in for a fantastic future, and this particular game still is worth your time as a SRPG fan: just be very, very wary of playing it in handheld mode if you don’t know the concessions, and check the demo out first if you want to see how it runs.

Outside of some strange technical issues, Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny is an excellent, hilarious, and heartfelt SRPG. You’ll never run out of things to do, even when the surprisingly touching story is finished, and you’ll remember these ridiculous characters for a good while to come.

If you already love Disgaea, you’ll probably love Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny. You’ll definitely get the most out of this game if you’re already familiar with other SRPGs, but this is a fine place to enter the series–or the genre, for that matter. In the end, all that Disgaea 6 truly demands of a player is the willingness to learn its mechanics, an appreciation for its zany sense of humor, and a fondness for cute anime demons causing problems on purpose. As long as you can give it that, you’ll have a good time with this game.

Disgaea's foundations are compartmentalised into this almost parody-like escapade that brings forth a mandate of abstract, while trying to envision grandeur in what may be its finale. An emphatic statement is made while controlling your party, like an well-oiled machine.

If you’ve enjoyed the Disgaea series in the past, you’ll like Disgaea 6. If you’ve never played it, you can jump in at any entry, and this is a good one to go with. Either way, you’ll get more enjoyment out of the game if you are judicious in using the new auto-play feature. After all, why let the game alone have all the fun?
