Overview

Metropolis Lux Obscura is a unique game with a film noir atmosphere, seductive wanton women, and dirty dangerous secrets. Gameplay is based on a motion comic with a non-linear plot mixed with MATCH3 puzzle fights. This city is rotten to the core. You can’t even tell night from day in this hell where big money runs everything. And the best way to prove you’re right is with brute force. Jon Lockhart walked through the prison gates a free man, after spending years imprisoned as the supposed murderer of an old friend. He returned once more to the city where it all started intent on figuring out who it was that framed him for the murder and make them pay in blood for the crime. It'd take some work with the key witness dead, but that just meant he'd have to flush out every rat from hiding. Old friends and new enemies. Search for the truth, for loyalty and sanity - but all you can find here is redemption, betrayal and death. Welcome to Metropolis.

Although it’s easy to blaze through, Metropolis is a pretty enjoyable match-3. It has an enjoyable story, and you can replay it for the alternate endings, or just to listen to the soundtrack.

I can’t be too critical of Metropolis: Lux Obscura as the price point is only just over a fiver, but I’d rather pay more and get a better developed story, more of the enjoyable gameplay and an extended experience. Give it a go if you like match-3, not if you’re only interested in the story.

I will say I’ve never played a game like Metropolis: Lux Obscura and I’m glad I did, but I think it has narrow appeal. If you like Sin City, it’s worth a look.

If you want a match-three puzzle game on PlayStation, then the gameplay of Metropolis: Lux Obscura might scratch that itch. Its noir theme is interesting, but the mature content for this one might not be for everyone. For the asking price, being able to add a new Platinum trophy in around four hours is definitely nice, right?
