Cricket 22 is without any hint of doubt, the best representation of one of the oldest, and best, sports around, but if Big Ant want to take the next step, to reach the summit and join the sporting sim elite, there is still more to be done.

Cricket 22 is a good entry into the genre. Would I say it has improved on the last instalment? Yes is the answer, but clearly, it hasn’t exceeded the 2019 version massively. The addition of more modes, licencing and online options does make it a much better game overall. Sadly though there are some issues with bugs and glitches here and there and I did witness some crashing issues on Xbox Series X.

The updated career mode, the licence for the Ashes, The Hundred and Big Bash, as well as the inclusion of the women’s game make it an overall impressive package, but it’s still plagued by the same issues that Cricket games seem to have experienced since forever. The technical bits still don’t translate well, and if I am being totally honest, I am disappointed by the bland visual and audio presentation in the game.

Cricket 22 is far from perfect, and patches for some of the bugs are on their way, but it is a fun recreation of the sport itself. And primarily, that should be the only thing that matters. I don’t think there’s much here to entice non-cricket fans, but for those who love the game, no matter what their preferred format, there is a lot of fun to be had with Cricket 22.
