World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 is the latest version of Konami's soccer simulator series. Added this year are more clubs from the Italian Series A, Spanish La Liga, and Dutch Eredivisie Leagues, as well as a number of other individual clubs. One hundred thirty-six clubs in six different leagues are available for play to get to the various cups featured in the game. Incrementally improved graphics and AI are also included. The game is online compatible, so you can play out rivalries across the globe.

This time the AI is a harder nut to crack, requiring more thoughtful passing to open up your opponent before you strike. So long as you're thinking like a footballer, you're going to score goals. There's a good depth to the control options, with tricks that can take weeks or months to learn, which is why some gamers become so obsessive and fanatical about this series. The deftest of touches on the ball, from fast glancing headers and skillful flick-ons to Ronaldinho-style trickery and spectacular overhead kicks, are possible if your player is in the right position and you have learned the secrets. One flaw is the repetitive and sometimes inaccurate commentary. However, most gamers will be too addicted to the Master League - where they can buy and sell players for their club over consecutive seasons - to worry about the smaller trivialities. Endgame: There's nothing quite like seeing the team you support kick some goals and with this you can do it in style. Brothers In Arms: Earned in Blood PC, Xbox, PS2, $79.95; $69.95 for PC, MA, * * * ½ This latest Brothers in Arms adventure is a first-person shooter that lures you with atmospheric touches and hooks you with gritty action. Rushing the enemy like Rambo will only get you killed in this game, as co-ordinated squad tactics are required to survive against the odds.
