SwapQuest is the best portable puzzle game that I've played in a very long time. In fact, I can't wait to get this review up so I can keep playing it.

SwapQuest is priced low enough to be worthy of a cheerful experience that can be enjoyed by all ages, especially given the option for family members and friends to adventure in two player local co-op. But only purchase it if you’re happy with a simple puzzler that lacks on the RPG front.

SwapQuest does a great job of transforming a casual classic into the foundation of an RPG-lite, and for the vast majority of my time with it, I found it surprising and clever. It’s just too bad the developers ramped up the endgame challenge for clear reason. I was seriously considering giving the game a second playthrough to see how the other characters leveled up and transformed over the course of the adventure, but the prospect of suffering through the endgame again made put the game down after the credits rolled. Whatever the reason behind the difficulty, the devs wound up shooting themselves in the foot when they should have been sticking the landing. Disclosures: This game is developed and published by Rebusmind.

SwapQuest is a fun little title that successfully blurs the lines between RPG and the puzzler Pipe Dream. While it does have some drawbacks, its addictive gameplay remains entertaining throughout, which really comes into its own in the final few hours. There’s nothing groundbreaking here, but what SwapQuest can provide you with is an enjoyable distraction on a quiet summer’s day.

Sporting solid gameplay with good variation between its levels, the game provides effective entertainment for the couple of evenings it should take to polish off. Some may nevertheless feel that the game doesn’t quite offer its fill of content and things to do outside of simply replaying it. There’s not much to the story: the game’s premise about having to collect the broken shards of a special crystal to seal away a horde of monsters endures as its only plot point.
