Strikers 1945
In 1945, the second world war ended. Soon, there was peace, but an organization of high-ranking military officers from all over the world form a global army known as CANY. Their mission was to conquer the world. CANY activity was found in areas like the Soviet Union, America, Japan, and even Germany. It is revealed that CANY had weapons never seen before from rockets to mechanical walkers. The world quickly formed a group of pilots and planes called the Strikers whose mission is to rid of CANY from the world.

Although it's not the best example of a classic arcade shooter, Strikers 1945 is an enjoyable game to pick up and play whenever you want a fix of retro shoot 'em up action. Hopefully, we see the sequels arrive sometime down the road, too.

STRIKERS1945 is a challenging but fun experience. As you put more time and energy into the game you’ll start to see the results of your patience, slowly being able to clear more and more of its fiendish stages. The varying aircraft options allow players to find a play-style that suits them, and the option to alter the amount of lives and continues you have means that (whilst experienced arcade lovers will get the most out of this game), players who struggle can still see the game through to the end.

Don’t get us wrong: Strikers 1945 is definitely worth picking up. It’s a rush, a bombastic vertical shooter that gets almost everything right. Carving through a mech that erupts from a 1940s tank never gets old. But there’s some lamenting to be had, as it’s a repackaged game that has been repackaged better before.

Piczle Lines DX Rainy Frog / Score Studios Switch, Android, iOS (Switch version reviewed) If you’ve ever read my article on the 30 best DS games you’ll have seen that one of them is Pic Pic, an extremely hard-to-find puzzle game consisting of three different types of picture-based puzzle. Piczle Lines DX is based on one of those puzzle types, better known as Pic-A-Pix or ‘paint by pairs’ puzzles. You’re presented with an empty grid that’s got numbers in it.

Regardless of all this, however, Strikers 1945 is an excellent shoot ’em up, and a great way to kick off the Psikyo Shooting Stars collections on Switch — yet another example of how the platform is an amazing gateway to retro experiences from nearly every distinct era of gaming history at this point.
