It’s a worthy sequel to one of the world’s greatest visual novels, and one that’s managed to surpass any and every expectation set for it. Steins;Gate is a very Japanese game and the Japanese voice-over is, by far, one of the most enjoyable I’ve had the pleasure to listen to.

In the end, I cannot recommend this game enough. The story is extremely engaging and written intelligently. Much like the previous installment, they handle the notion of time travel and its consequences with great care. Nothing about it seems too far-fetched, either. The series does detract from the humorous tone that it once had, though, but I’m not complaining about it one bit. The darker, serious tone still allows for some light-hearted moments, but when the drama kicks in, it does so in a way that makes you want to pay attention and keep pressing forward.

Overall, Steins;Gate 0 is an exceptional experience and should be on the radar of any visual novel fan. If you’re not a fan of the genre you won’t find much here to enjoy due to how the story centralizes around reading text, but for those who are, you’re in for a treat.

Now that I've read it though, I can't think of Steins;Gate without it.(
