Core Keeper is the perfect introduction to crafting games, setting a new standard in approachability for the genre through clever game design. It also serves as a focused collection of staple genre mechanics that results in a near-perfect experience. Over time, I foresee this game earning more reasons to play it and it looks like the developers intend to support the game through steady updates.

Core Keeper is a wonderfully engaging and mysterious survival sandbox that is tough to put down once it gets its hooks in you. An expertly judged progression curve, tons of secrets and unlockables, and excellent presentation all come together to make this one an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a great new survival game. If you’ve had your fill of stalwarts like Minecraft or Terraria and are looking for the next great game to scratch that itch, look no further.

There’s so much I could talk about with Core Keeper, but it’s the sense of discovery that really makes this game so special — and going in not knowing exactly what you might encounter feels like sort-of the point. But if you have a taste for adventure, enjoy carving your own path and don’t mind figuring things out for yourself, you’re going to have a whale of a time. This review of Core Keeper is based on the PS5 version of the game, with a code provided by the publisher.

Core Keeper is an excellent blend of survival, exploration, and crafting with a rich, inviting experience. The simplistic mechanics, engaging, charming visuals and cooperative gameplay truly make the title shine. Even in its early access state, it has a bright future ahead of itself, engulfing players in a cozy yet dangerous underground world.
