Overview

A bustling town deep in the frontier at the foot of an endless sea of trees... It is into this wild and untamed setting that a young man collapses, memories gone and only his name to guide him. Bereft of his past, Adol Cristin wanders the town of Casnan searching for clues to his identity. Joined by an information dealer who claims to have known him, the young adventurer helps rescue doomed miners from a collapse; an act which attracts the attention of the Romun Army general in town. Impressed with their skills, the pair is enlisted to explore the Great Forest and map the vast expanses of Celceta – a task which many have attempted in the past, but from which none have ever returned alive. Alone in this strange and uncharted frontier, Adol must brave the perilous sea of trees as he struggles to regain his memories and decide whom he can trust, and who is simply attempting to take advantage of his memory loss in order to deceive him...

Though you might not find anything new here if you’ve played through Ys: Memories of Celceta before, Ys is just one of those series that is consistently fun to go back to no matter how many times you play it. Falcom is magic in the way that they can pull off something like that while being a smaller studio, and XSEED has consistently taken good care of the entries they’ve handled.

Despite its age showing a bit and some lacking story elements, Ys Memories of Celceta is a very enjoyable game that set the tone for the series moving forward.

For newcomers to the series, or those who just missed out on the Vita version, this new port is a fine way to enjoy Ys: Memories of Celceta, but for those who’ve played it before there’s not enough new content to justify a second purchase. ~ Final Score: 9/10 ~ Review copy provided by XSeed for PC.

Ys Memories Of Celceta is yet another excellent entry in the action role-playing game series by Falcom, taking everything that made Ys SEVEN good and elevating it to new heights. Even with its small issues, such as low difficulty level and unoriginal story, Ys Memories Of Celceta is a game that all fans of fast-paced action RPGs should experience at least once.

Ys: Memories of Celceta remains the best that the incredible ARPG series has to offer. Although it hasn't changed much over the years, it's cool that those who missed it on PlayStation Vita can now enjoy it on PS4.
