MONSTER
A remake of the XIII game from 2003. The game is a first-person shooter where you play as Thirteen, a talented soldier who lost his memory and has been accused of killing the President of the United States. You first wake up injured and amnesic on Brighton Beach with the only clue being a small key and a mysterious tattoo XIII next to your clavicle. It’s now your job to search for answers through a 34 levels solo campaign. Don’t worry, you will find the appropriate weapon arsenal along the way. With questions not missing, neither are the bullets!

Though not without its flaws, the stylish presentation is such a unique departure from most standard FPS games, and the storyline was so superb, that I was able to put those minor flaws aside and thoroughly enjoy the game. Pros and Cons + Great story + Fantastic cell-shaded, comic book look + Unique comic book panel way of conveying story + Innovative "sixth sense" implementation - Minor clipping issues - A bit too linear - Save system is frustrating - Enemy AI is rather stupid Bottom Line If you're a conspiracy theorist or a comic book fan, you will love this game.

And with the engaging story, plus the graphic-novel presentation (boxes of action and text are constantly popping up on-screen), this truth is worth uncovering. The 2022 XIII remake is a second chance to give new life to a cult classic. Unlike the previous attempt, this version does right by its fans by honoring the cult classic. It also does a great job at introducing it to a new generation of gamers. Disclaimer: Microids provided the game used for this review. This review is the critique and thoughts of one writer.

If you love first person shooters, or stealth, or being able to break chairs over people's heads, and then swing away on a grappling hook, than this is for you. It's a solid game that's fun to play, but could use some improvement.

Still, if you want to play through a good story on the easy or normal difficulty settings, there's a lot to like here. In addition to the story elements, there are various multiplayer modes that can pass some time, so it ends up being a fairly long-lasting game if you want it to be.
