WRC 5 really is the most fun I’ve had with a racer this year, giving you a phenomenal handling model, sticking you on a course and largely leaving you to attack it. What more could you want? Amazing handling model. Simple, honest rallying. Just great fun. Not the best graphically. Poor damage modelling. Slight wonky computer timings. Whilst it suffers from framerate problems and the co-driver stumbling over pace notes, it may be unpolished and certainly not representative of PS4 quality visuals, WRC 5 does still offer fantastic handling and a thrilling gameplay experience that rally fans will enjoy. There is plenty of content available and the extra online timed events will keep things ticking over for at least the next few months or more, as long as there are players playing and Kylotonn Games can provide.

WRC 5 is a new beginning for the series, and when viewed in that light, Kylotonn’s efforts come out quite well. There’s several issues, both big and small that detract from the game as a whole, but underneath it all there’s a rallying game that’s just a good bit of fun. When it’s just you and your co-pilot racing through a forest, barely making it through a series of tight twists and turns, that’s really what matter.
