Whispering Willows is a cool little indie horror game that focuses on exploration and puzzle solving. The game isn't necessarily scary, but the parallel story and atmosphere are definitely eerie. The ghost form mechanic is fun, and the game allows you to collect some items early, which is nice as well.

Whispering Willows wants you to learn its story, connect with its characters, and become engrossed in its world. Its insistence on story is so strong that gameplay feels deliberately pared down to ensure no one is stuck and left unable to unearth the next secret. This isn’t a complete negative, although its adventure game-like construction may feel a bit misleading to those who are more familiar with challenging, puzzle-ridden point-and-click style adventure games.

It's a game that players can sit down and play in one or two sittings, ending even more quickly if not looking for the hidden notes. The only thing more ghastly than its ghosts is finishing Whispering Willows and wanting more. Whispering Willows is available now on Ouya, however, Night Light Interactive has delayed the Steam version, slated for a July 9 release.

It’s a 2D adventure game that’s light on puzzles and heavy on reading, but I think it strikes an effective balance overall. It should be noted that though the game supports cross-buy between PS4 and Vita, the save files are not compatible.
