Daily Star highlighted the combat as satisfying, with upgradable special moves and a focus on leveling up skills, weapons, and gear to progress through the storyline. GamersRD also commended the dynamic combat system, mentioning instant attacks and well-designed enemy hitboxes. The game offers a variety of classes and weapons to choose from, allowing players to specialize and adapt their playstyle. Overall, the consensus among critics is overwhelmingly positive regarding the gameplay of New World: Aeternum. The game offers a compelling mix of combat, exploration, crafting, and character progression, catering to a wide range of playstyles. The active combat system, diverse weapon abilities, and comprehensive crafting options were particularly well-received. The Replay Value of New World: Aeternum has received mixed opinions from critics. Daily Star and Digital Chumps highlight the game's diverse range of activities such as exploring, fishing, building settlements, and engaging in various PvP modes like Arenas and Territory Wars, which contribute to a high replay value. The inclusion of different gameplay options beyond the main story, such as 3v3 Arenas and Expeditions, further enhances the replayability of the game. TheSixthAxis also praises the game for offering replay value through different playstyles, PvP options, crafting system, and exploration of diverse biomes, which encourages players to engage in a variety of activities, thus adding to the game's longevity. On the other hand, GamingBolt and Shacknews express concerns about the game's replay value. GamingBolt mentions that while New World offers various activities for both solo and group players, it may lack endgame content for some players, potentially limiting the long-term appeal of the game. Shacknews, playing on PC, notes that while the game provides challenging content, the reviewer did not feel motivated to spend many hours grinding, suggesting a lack of substantial replay value for certain players. This sentiment is echoed by Shacknews, indicating that the game may not be able to sustain interest over extended periods due to the perceived grind and lack of motivation. Overall, the consensus among the critics leans towards New World: Aeternum offering a decent level of replay value, especially for players who enjoy engaging in a variety of activities and exploring different playstyles. Has New World resurrected the glory days of the MMO? Not quite yet, but it’s the biggest step to revitalizing the MMORPG genre in a decade. Should Amazon Games make bold and intelligent decisions with their ongoing game development, then they could do it. And even if they can’t do it alone, alongside upcoming games like AoC and Pantheon, a new golden age could soon be upon us. And hey, who are we to turn down a menage-a-trois or an open marriage? It’s 2021, baby. Will I be continuing to play post-review? Absolutely.

There’s always something to do and work on, and while some elements could have used a bit more explaining and be a little more console friendly, overall it’s port to console was done impressively well. Of course, I ‘cheated’ a bit with having my Razer Turret to make typing quicker, but it wasn’t a requirement, as the default controls worked just fine and intuitively with a controller in hand. I'm going to be adventuring on Aeternum for quite some time at my own pace, and won't be surprised when I reach a few hundred hours of playtime. Console players may have had to wait a few years, but Amazon Games has clearly put in a hefty amount of effort to do it right, but better late than never.
