Hokko Life takes the Animal Crossing formula and builds on it with additional gameplay elements and an innovative in-game clock. Its gameplay is addictive and there's a lot of fun to be had, especially if you enjoy crafting. So, if you're looking for a rewarding alternative to the Nintendo classic albeit with more to do on any given day then you should definitely pick it up.

Hokko Life is a worthwhile experience for fans of Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, just do not expect any online connectivity in the near future.

Hokko Life is a well-developed cozy life sim that feels familiar enough to settle right into but has plenty of unique mechanics and creative freedom to keep even seasoned life sim players entertained for many hours of gameplay. Review Block Pros - Hokko Life’s familiar community-building gameplay is soothing and stress-free. - The unique Design Table functionality offers endless hours of creative gameplay. - The game’s anti-capitalist, pro-sustainability, and gender-neutral sentiments are refreshing. Cons - The tutorial storyline leaves out some essential game features that aren’t intuitive to find or activate on your own. - Hokko’s residents are a little creepy looking. Sept.

Hokko Life is a fun slice of life game that is worth a look for anyone wanting something more relaxed. The seemingly endless amount of things to see and do coupled with a charming aesthetic creates a stress-free and rewarding time, but does little to make itself stand out from similar titles.

Hokko Life is usually a game that I would dismiss immediately, as when I look at titles like this normally, they don’t really cater to my gaming preferences. But I really enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I was slightly concerned at the beginning about whether there would be enough content to remain interested, as the first few hours doesn’t really have a lot of discovering or exploration involved. These concerns were swiftly brushed aside as the game is cleverly written so that you’re constantly engaging with the community with some sense of which direction to steer you in.

So, where to begin with Hokko Life? Let’s start with the similarities to a well known game from Nintendo: Animal Crossing. Both games have resource management, building a community from scratch and crafting various tools to assist in your endeavours. See, everything about Hokko Life screams Animal Crossing, right down to the beginning of the game, where we see our young villager taking a short train ride to a quiet run-down village in the middle of nowhere. Upon getting off the train we’re introduced to Oma the elephant, an inn keeper who offers us a small room for the night (well, not exactly like ACNH).

Hokko Life is another good entry in the farming/life sim genre but one that needs a bit more care put into it to be great. It borrows a lot from Animal Crossing but doesn’t do most of it near as well whether that be the drive to want to keep playing it or the personalities of the villagers. Customization is this game’s strong suit so if that’s what you really enjoy about these types of games you’ll likely really enjoy this. *Hokko Life is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

In its current state, I’d recommend picking up Hokko Life on another platform over Nintendo Switch if you have the option. The long load times and performance issues even in early parts hold it back. The developers have said that they are still working on the game and bringing more to it, and Hokko Life has the potential to be much better on Switch. Right now, I can only recommend it with the caveat about technical issues and assuming you like the aesthetic. I enjoyed my time with this blend of elements from Animal Crossing and Story of Seasons. -Mikhail Madnani SwitchArcade Score: 3.5/5 New Releases The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition ($69.99 or $19.99 Upgrade) This kind of dropped out the sky, didn’t it? This is available as a stand-alone purchase for $69.99 or as an upgrade DLC for existing Skyrim owners for $19.99.
