Defunct offers a well rounded adventure that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s a game that doesn’t try to stand out, but instead rest on its laurels of relaying that old-school Sonic-like gameplay. The story is forgettable and the functionality of play can take some getting used to, but if you bear with it, Defunct wont disappoint. This game was tested and reviewed on Xbox One.

Above all else, Defunct sells itself on an exhilarating sense of speed matched with excellent level design and exploration. It’s rare to find a game where simply moving around is as fun as it is here. Of course the game’s short length might deter some, but it’s genuinely interesting to see a developer run with the idea of a momentum-based platformer and nail the core mechanics.

Defunct combines speed and exploration in a package that’s simplistic but engaging. The gravity functions lack a variety of uses but they’re necessary in nearly every situation, and there’s so many ways to engage with the game the way you want. It doesn’t have all of its screws tightened, but what’s there is packed with replay value. TOP GAME MOMENT Zipping through a tunnel, rotating around like F-Zero. Good vs Bad - Excellent sense of speed. - Multiple ways to enjoy the game. - Couldn’t use Xbox controller.

Defunct's way of conveying the sense of motion and fluidity works great with the control and management of the robot's position. However, its simplicity and strange objective design can present some drawbacks.
