In all honesty, I think the developers really hampered themselves on this one. They should have sent out the PC version to reviewers in the first place. Overall, I love the game on PC. But I have to review the copy I was given, and the Switch port just isn’t good.

Nindie Spotlight

An unfortunately spot-on title for this pretty generic and troubled platformer When we’re over 5 years into the Switch’s lifespan and you load up a game only to find that it doesn’t have Pro Controller support, it’s hard not to feel things are off to a bad start.

It’s a tonal hodgepodge, almost completely unfunny in every attempt, but a half-decent metroidvania structure is Clunky Hero’s saving grace. Don’t expect to find magic in this fantasy land, but you can enjoy the game for how it plays. Clunky Hero is out now on Nintendo Switch (review platform), PS4, Xbox One and PC (Steam) Developers: Chaosmonger Studio Publishers: Chaosmonger Studio Disclaimer: In order to complete this review, we were provided with a promotional code from the publisher.

But Why Tho?

With so many Metroidvania games on the market, Clunky Hero will be drowned out by a multitude of far superior titles. Even if it has its moments, there is absolutely nothing that makes it stand out against similar, better-crafted titles like Hollow Knight or Monster Sanctuary. If anything, it’s worth picking up for a cheap laugh due to its lack of purpose. Clunky Hero is out now on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X | S, Playstation 5 and PC.
