MONSTER
Imagine a world where 'toons rule the road and the demolition derby is a way of life. In Cel Damage, the world's toughest 'toons face off against each other in souped-up, weapon-laden vehicles to out-maneuver, out-race, and out-smack each other for personal glory. These gas-powered gladiators battle it out in highly interactive cartoon environments where they can roam freely, discover hidden areas, interact with set gag pieces (such as the 100 ton weight), perform stunts, and whack the heck out of their opponents. And with a host of wild weapons, such as giant boxing gloves and baseball bats, at their disposal, these 'toons with attitude take part in vehicular combat as it has never been seen before.

Online play would have been nice but, still, a worthy effort.

Cel Damage HD is a good game for the local multiplayer aficionados out there, but it’s hard to outright recommend. It’s a highly amusing game best played in short bursts, but for most players there’s not really more than a few hours of content here despite all the match options, and when played on hard difficulty the lack of weapon balancing really rears its ugly head.

For an HD remake that no one asked for of a game that few people played, Cel Damage HD is actually pretty charming and entertaining. It’s a classic party multiplayer game at its heart and doesn’t do too much to cater to anyone else.

Cel Damage HD isn’t going to rocket to the top of the eShop charts and become the kind of unit-selling monster that publishers only dream of, but that doesn’t mean it should be passed up if you're a brand new player. As a local multiplayer affair, its vehicular combat is bombastic and silly in a way that makes for countless rewarding matches. It’s still too easy to unlock every new weapon and arena in a couple of hours, but with full support for four-player multiplayer, this cartoonish caper finally gets the handheld iteration it deserved all along.
