If you are sensitive to political correctness, easily triggered, uncomfortable with coarse language, or some political and racial overtones as was common at the time, you may want to give this one a miss. But for everyone else, give it a play, it’s actually really fun.

Sadly I didn’t put much time into “Beat Cop”. While the game is amazing in its detail and design, the game actually starts to feel like a job! I can attribute this mostly to my own taste and opinion. I can still appreciate some of the nuance this game offers. I think “Beat Cop” deserves an 8.5 for being strong enough to captivate anyone who craves good character development and witty dialogue.

I didn’t really have any expectations on Beat Cop when I first played it on PC back in 2017. Even two years later now on the Nintendo Switch it manages a quite pleasant surprise playing it. The story is quite addicting and I’m always eager to see what is next or even replay to see what else could have happened. Beat Cop is a pretty decent length as well and should clock in for most somewhere between seven and ten hours. The non-linear story, along with the multiple endings, means there is a good amount of replayability as well. All in all, this is a great homage to 1980’s cop shows that shouldn’t be missed.

The overall goal for this game is to make you laugh and it is this which is apparent through every interaction and every character. It’s good at it too, as Beat Cop is genuinely funny. I don’t remember a recent game that has made me laugh as much as this has. You start to care for Kelly and the people that live on his street too, and whilst there are times where the comedy can be hit or miss, these are few and far between, and the attitude and charm that the game has is easily its biggest strength. It’s a great looking experience too, with a pixelated art style that gives a lot of character.
