As a gamer who has played on the vast majority of the platforms available in Antstream Arcade, getting back onto some of these games was an absolute joy. I had a permanent smile on my face even from just scrolling through the available games.

Antstream Arcade is a must-have subscription for the retro enthusiast. It has a great selection of games, and even if every big name isn’t there and they aren’t natively downloadable, the cloud-based service works incredibly well. Add in a fantastic challenge system and local multiplayer, and this is an easy recommendation.

Antstream Arcade is a good retro-gaming service that does a great job of bringing old gaming experiences easily home to gamers, and additional interesting content (tournaments, challenges, etc.) that adds more value to the yearly subscription fee. The service has a vast library and a respectable price point to begin reliving one’s childhood. The application probably needs some additional information architecture work and clarification on how it crosses back and forth between platforms that users online have been wondering about.

Antstream has won awards like “Heritage in Games” at the TIGA awards, and that best describes the quality of this platform. It’s a preservation library that gives players to play things that they would simply never come across, much less find a way to play. It might not be the “greatest hits” platform, yes, but if spending an afternoon wading through a library of obscure titles and trying things that alternate between happy discovery and dismal waste of time sounds like fun, then Antstream is probably something you’ll enjoy.

Though the UI could benefit from some improvements, such as the ability to remap controls for enhanced accessibility, these minor issues do not hamper the overall functionality of the service. One notable quirk is the lack of the option to hold a direction on the d-pad or left analog stick to scroll through games, necessitating clicking through them one by one. Nevertheless, Antstream Arcade remains a highly enjoyable platform that successfully combines gaming nostalgia with modern convenience. The preservation-first mentality of Antstream Arcade is truly refreshing.
