Lost Soul Aside is not a perfect game. There are rough edges, a slow introduction that doesn't accurately represent the rest of the game, and a lot of the story feels like moments thrown together the creator thought would be "cool." However, if you can get past the unrefined parts, you will discover a fun action game that is a full-on throwback to days gone by. While it doesn't do anything too unique, the deep combo system and weapon switching allows you to go all out in every situation the game throws at you, and there are plenty of challenges to overcome.

Lost Soul Aside is a game of two halves: a phenomenal action core with enjoyable platforming, wrapped in a bargain-bin story and a sprinkling of half-baked RPG fluff. If you’re here purely for the combat, you’ll have a blast chaining combos and conquering some seriously cool boss fights.

Overall, Lost Soul Aside is packed with fantastic ideas, though not all of them land. Its bombastic boss fights, beautiful character designs, and exhilarating combat make it well worth experiencing. Still, a forgettable narrative and some repetitive design keep it from fully reaching the heights it aspires to.
