Overview

There is an unusual cabin deep in the woods. It had served as a laboratory and a dwelling for three generations of Lodgers. But as of late the latest Lodger has been noticing weird changes in familiar surroundings; things are missing, noises and rattle heard. Something odd is coming out of the woods.

The real goal is to come out the other side with some sort of meaningful appreciation of our hero’s plight. To understand what tools are required for such a person to even exist while being plagued by these nightmares so often that they become reality itself. To gain the ability to adapt well enough to those circumstances to be able to use those tools effectively. That is Knock-Knock. Pros: - Doesn’t explain to you how to play, which is a refreshing twist - Requires actual thought to comprehend it - Spurs an uneasy feeling in the gut all the way through - Beautiful Cons: - Sometimes feels more like a game you respect for its ambition than truly like - Repetitive nature of the stages can be a drag Final Score: 90/100 Game Front employs a 100-point scale when reviewing games to be as accurate about the experience as possible.

Knock Knock is driven by a neat idea and an evocative presentation. It’s a shame, then, that its goodwill is hampered by gameplay that feels a little broken. To give it the benefit of the doubt, the issues I ran into seem to be a result of the game not going far enough to give the player a proper explanation outside a few needlessly cryptic notes in between stages. The game is equipped with the right scares but I found it hard to invest in the experience because of frequent, unknown fail states.

Knock Knock isn't quite a nightmare, but with a little more focus, it could have been a dream to play.
