Heroland enters the fold as the ultimate “sit back and relax” JRPG. Even though the game has hands-off combat and long-winded dialogue sections where your participation is questionable, you have charm oozing from every pixel. The self-aware humor and quirky characters make up for most of the shortcomings.

For what it’s trying to do, there’s nothing quite like Heroland elsewhere on the Nintendo Switch. Whether or not what Heroland tries to do is a well-realized product, however, might still be up for debate.

But Why Tho?

When all is said and done, Heroland ends up being a bit of a mixed bag. Charming graphics and a deep, uniquely enjoyable combat system are mired by obnoxious characters and a need to level grind. There is a lot to like about this game, just as long as you are willing to commit the time to find it. Heroland releases late 2019. Heroland - 7.5/10 TL;DR When all is said and done, Heroland ends up being a bit of a mixed bag.

Heroland is an excellent “podcast game.” You can take your time with the actual important parts, paying attention to new boss battles and enjoying the story, then zone out with a show or something while you grind older levels to get your party up to speed. You never feel rushed or burdened by Heroland, even though the actual situation is kind of terrifying by real-world standards.
