If you sincerely want to play the original, go get the original: it’s free, and it aligns with your memory significantly better. If you want to force a game on your kids because “I played this as a child!”, then get Chex Quest HD and be prepared to apologize later. But if you or a family member are curious as to what the hell caused this to be unleashed upon the world, then buckle up and dive in: it’s about to get soggy.

That’s because the free remake, which modernizes a 1996 childhood staple that came packaged with boxes of Chex cereal, isn’t a game as much as it is a 1990s nostalgia trip.

I feel like no one will be happy with this end result outside of the most dedicated Flemoid hunters. Even as a free nostalgia trip, I can't imagine that many fans of the original will want to see it visually mangled in this manner.

For a game based on a snack mix, Chex Quest HD is truly one of a kind. However, as a FPS, it lacks the polish needed to be anything more than a Doom clone with some silly trappings. Cornering the market on snack-based video games, Flight School Studio and General Mills have released the family friendly FPS Chex Quest HD for all those willing to take a bite.
