Atomicrops is an action packed roguelite farming simulator. You own the last farm in the post apocalypse wasteland and running it is a dangerous job. - Grow and harvest your mutated ultra-GMO crops as you defend against bandits, mutants and insects. - Supply the local town with produce to earn rewards. - Upgrade your weapons, equipment, and crops for maximum profits. - Court and marry a townsfolk to fight by your side. - Find creatures to help work the land. - Permanently upgrade your farm house for persistent bonuses. Survive as many seasons as you can before you are overrun. Shoot to till!

Despite a few nitpicks, Atomicrops is, in many ways, is a superb experience. It’s a harmonious blend between completely unique ideas and straightforward, simple mechanics. It’s tough as nails, but not discouragingly punishing. It doesn’t overwhelm the player with a surfeit of nuances to learn, yet it offers enough perks and gameplay modifiers to keep you always stumbling upon something new. For an indie title that seeks to present physical challenge and old-school, arcade thrill in place of a meaningful narrative, it accomplishes its mission beautifully. If this were a true arcade game, I’d have spent all my quarters long, long ago.

While it may seem like an odd pairing on the face of it, Atomicrops blend of farming, rogue-like elements and bullet hell shooter make for one incredibly fun game. Starting from scratch upon death still isn’t my favourite thing in the world, but Atomicrops is definitely one of the better examples of this system. This game was reviewed based on Xbox One review code, using an Xbox One console.
